Wounded Sun will be at Museum of Ventura County

My painting “Wounded Sun” will be at the Museum of Ventura County from February 9 through March 2.

The painting is part of a group exhibit – an Open Competition by Buenaventura Art Association. The juror is William Wray.  I’m honored to be accepted into this show. He’s an artist that defies categories: he is figurative, abstract as well as urban scenes that personally, remind me of Miles Davis. (you want me to explain? I can’t.. I’m an artist… LOL) If you haven’t listened to Miles, take a listen and see what I mean.

The Wounded Sun was painted as a response to The Thomas Fire which devasted my county in 2017. (I still recoil from a fire in my fireplace)

This piece is 48×36, oil on cradled board and will be available for purchase at the musuem.

When it was first exhibited, we were asked to write a short “blurb” on the piece, this is mine:

The Wounded Sun

Ash falls like snow, gently enveloping the surviving plants.

Thick smoke obscures the scarred landscape.

Empty streets without an echo of laughter.

And yet, as I sip my morning coffee and look at

The Wounded Sun, a piece of green peeks through.
