Today I chose cradled board that is an unusual size: 4″ high by 12″ long. I chose to paint the Oxnard Plains today — I liked this view because it seemed to fit the board well.
Oxnard has some of the most fertile farmland in the United States. A friend, whose family owned lots of land told me the Oxnard Plains have 12″ of topsoil!! So… Oxnard is home to strawberries, artichokes, tomatoes (they tend to grow those in hoop houses), and all kinds of crucerfous veggies such as cauliflower and broccoli. Originally, the crop of Oxnard was the sugar beet, but I don’t think it’s grown that much anymore.
I love this project — it’s getting me in the studio. Even though I have company now and will be busy with family things over the next month, it’s a good feeling to know that I’ll get some time in the studio everyday.
One of my nephews texted me today and sent me a photo of a drawing he’s working on for an art class in college. (It’s really good btw…) Anyway, he was talking about how the time has flown while he was drawing and listening to music and drawing was so relaxing.
It’s not always relaxing… sometimes it can be so frustrating. But… it always transports me to another place and I like it there.
