Ojai Meadow Afternoon
Painted in Ojai as the late afternoon light began turning the mountains pink. I was worried that if I continued working wet-into-wet, that beautiful pink would simply mix with the colors already on the surface and become gray.
On impulse, I added some old wax to my paint. Suddenly, the color sat beautifully on top instead of disappearing into what was underneath.
It was one of those wonderful painting days when solving a small problem opens an entirely new door. The mountains kept their luminous pink, and I discovered another way of building a painting.
