Morro Bay State Park
Painted in the studio from Morro Bay State Park, this was one of my first experiments working primarily with a palette knife. I was interested in the dark trees framing the lighter landscape beyond and in breaking the scene into broad shapes of color and value. The palette knife encouraged me to give up some of the detail I had relied on with a brush and to build the painting through texture, edges, and larger masses of color.
