Look Out Beach

Painted plein air along California’s Central Coast on one of those rare days when everything seemed to work. The weather cooperated, the light held, and the painting seemed to come together without a struggle.

I was drawn to the quiet layers of sand, coastal vegetation, water, and distant headlands, and to the soft, muted colors of the coast that day. Plein air painting can be unpredictable, which makes a day like this especially memorable—a day when the place, the weather, and the painting all seemed to be in agreement.
