Description
Today we landed in Ketchikan, Alaska and chose to go salmon fishing (had to wake-up at 5:30 am) at Knudson Cove. It was about 20 minutes from Ketchikan. I caught a Silver Salmon aka Coho salmon! I actually caught a few King salmon but they were very small so they had to be thrown back. I’m having the Silver Salmon flown home – Kevin said it’s the most expensive salmon we’ve ever eaten!
What a treat the whole experience was: besides catching salmon, we saw whales. Even though we live in Southern California and see whales a lot, I don’t think I’ve ever seen them so close before. Also saw a number of Bald Eagles.
I was so excited that the sun came out and there was actually some green that I could put in. When we got back to our stateroom, I pulled out my paints and went to work. I’m glad I painted this scene right when we got back. The photo didn’t capture the green that was on one of the islands. I knew it while we were on the boat so I made sure to burn that color in my brain!
This piece is oil on cradled board, 8″ x 10″ and painted with a palette knife – no brush!
