The Light Won
“Where can we find light in this never-ending shade?”
That question from Amanda Gorman’s The Hill We Climb inspired this painting. The black began as grief. As I worked, I kept trying to make it larger, allowing only a small amount of light to remain. But the painting resisted. Each time I pushed the light back, it returned.
In the end, the painting made its own decision: the light won.
