Figueroa Mountain Spring

Painted plein air from the fire lookout on Figueroa Mountain, looking toward Grass Mountain in the distance, its slopes bright with spring poppies. Getting to this viewpoint is never guaranteed. Depending on the year, the road may be washed out, blocked by fallen trees, or simply inaccessible.

But when the road is open and spring has arrived, the drive is always worth it. I was drawn to the brilliant greens of the new growth, the flashes of orange poppies, and the layers of mountains stretching toward the distance.
