Dreamin’ of No Walls

This painting began as a response to the walls being erected along U.S. borders, but as I worked, the idea of a wall became much larger. I began thinking about the Great Wall of China, machine code, the boundaries of space, imprisonment, and the walls we construct within our own minds. Then came COVID, bringing another kind of separation and isolation.

The painting evolved along with those thoughts, becoming less about any one physical barrier and more about the many ways we divide, contain, protect, isolate, and limit ourselves.

Ultimately, it became a dream of what might exist without those walls.
