Some people anthropomorphize animals. I anthropomorphize trees. While I was drawing this, I couldn’t stop wondering about that tree on the right. How did it end up all by itself?
Was it a rebellious teenager that decided to strike out on its own? Much like both of my grandfathers, who left Greece and came to America? Does it know it didn’t exactly choose the best place to put down roots? The ground surrounding it is crusty, unstable, and slowly encroaching. Do the trees up on the hillside look down and worry about it? Do they send encouragement?
Or maybe that lone tree is perfectly content where it is.
These are the musings of an artist while drawing.
