2026.07.29 Moraine Lake – Banff NP

Yesterday I was talking with one of my sons about how much I’d love to return to Moraine Lake and stay at the Moraine Lake Lodge. Why? During peak season, Moraine Lake can receive around 6,000 visitors a day. Access is restricted—you have to take a shuttle, and by evening most everyone has left. I’ve read that the last shuttle departs around 7:30.

I don’t dream about staying there because of the lodge itself. I dream about what comes after. To sit beside this lake when the crowds are gone. To watch the light change across the mountains. To hear nothing but the water, the wind, and the occasional bird.

In a world that seems to get louder every year, that kind of silence feels like the greatest luxury of all.
