2026.02.19–02.20 Chief’s Peak

This drawing was developed over two sittings—something that happens when either time runs short or the landscape asks for a slower, more considered response. Returning to it allowed me to refine the rhythm of the trees and the structure of the mountains.This is one of Ojai’s most recognizable views: Chief’s Peak rising beyond the layered canopy of palms and oaks. What draws me back to it is the contrast between the softness of the foreground and the strength of the mountains behind—something I explore here through line and value.
