Plein Air

Painting outdoors is where much of my work begins. Working directly in the landscape forces me to respond—to changing light, shifting weather, limited time, and all the things I can’t control.
I paint primarily with a palette knife, looking for the larger shapes, color relationships, and structure of a place rather than trying to record every detail. There is an immediacy to plein air painting that I love. I have to make decisions quickly and trust what I’m seeing.
These paintings are records of that time spent looking—made on location, in the landscape itself.
