Northern California

Northern California
Northern California is a landscape of dramatic shifts—rugged coastline, towering redwoods, quiet rivers, agricultural valleys, and mountains rising in the distance.
My work from this region comes from stopping long enough to really look. Sometimes that means painting plein air; other times it begins with a photograph, a drawing, or one of my grayscale Morning Practice studies. I’m interested in the shapes and values that define a place—the way fog softens a coastline, light moves across a hillside, or a dark stand of trees creates structure in an otherwise expansive landscape.
