Icefields Parkway
The Icefields Parkway is one of those roads where it is nearly impossible to simply drive from one place to another. Mountains rise on either side, glaciers appear between the peaks, and rivers and lakes shift from deep blue to an almost unbelievable turquoise.
Traveling between Banff and Jasper, I stopped often to photograph, look and draw when I could. The scale can be overwhelming, but drawing brings me back to smaller things—the shapes of the mountains, the movement of water, the patterns of light and shadow. These are the observations I continue to return to long after leaving the road behind.
