Origins opens at Ojai Valley Museum

Origins, an exhibit by Ojai Studio Artists and The Ojai Valley Museum opened on August 16 and runs through October 15.

The exhibit culminates with the annual Ojai Studio Artists Tour – about 60 artists in the Ojai Valley open their studios to the public. I was going to say it’s a lot of fun – but actually it’s a lot of fun for the attendees – us artists? We’re pooped! But… I do love talking to people about art, books and gardening. (For those of you that have been to my home, you know why those subjects come up!)

There will be a big reception (for ticket holders only on Saturday, Oct. 12 with food and vino included.

I will also be there during Ojai’s 3rd Friday on September 20 – so come on by and say hi! (I’ll also be at Gallery 113 in Santa Barbara from 11 – 2 that same day, so come on by there if you’re in the area)

We all were asked to give statements about our piece, this is mine:

I spent my youth in Northern Quebec and summers in Ontario.
Neil Young’s song Helpless captures the wild beauty of the isolated north.
I close my eyes and can smell the pine needles gently falling on the forest floor – a whisper in the deep silence punctuated by the haunting laughter of the loons.
All my changes were there.

I utilized all the advantages of cold wax medium in this piece. (ok – maybe not all, but some) From imprint with crumbled tissue paper, collage (search for books – they’re mine that I photographed) to scrapeing and molding.

I do need to get a better photograph. Hope I can do that soon!
