Banff National Park is a landscape of extraordinary scale—turquoise lakes, immense mountains, dense forests and constantly shifting light. Although the crowds made it difficult to set up an easel and paint, I could often find a small place to sit and draw—even at busy Moraine Lake.

Those drawings, photographs and hours spent looking become part of an ongoing conversation with the landscape. Some remain records of a particular moment; others become the starting point for work made much later. Leaving a place rarely means I am finished with it.
