Christine Beirne’s extensive travels through national forests, parks and preserves and along the California coast inspire her artistry. She captures light and shadows and the range of colors with a palette knife and relies on the ancient medium of cold wax to bring a luscious, thick impasto to her work. She paints en plein air and uses her small sketches in creating larger works, many times abstracting shapes and employing textures to create pieces that hint at a place but do not strictly represent a particular place.
